In 2018 the robotics communities of Moorhead, Fargo, and West Fargo collaborated to find a space where they could work and share resources with one another. This group came to be known as the STEM Alliance. Students from the Fargo-Moorhead were able to explore their interest in STEM and form friendships with other likeminded students. The Alliance also provided the opportunity for older students to help mentor younger students in STEM related activities such as FIRST Lego League.
In 2021 Stem Alliance acquired 501(c)(3) status. Our mission is to partner with area schools and businesses to provide unique opportunities to area students in a variety of STEM activities. The goal of the STEM Alliance is to encourage area youth to pursue careers in STEM. Many of our past participants have gone on to pursue college degrees in STEM fields and to work for companies using the skills we helped foster.
The STEM Alliance hosts multiple events, provided support to multiple teams, and supported many STEM activities. In January we host a Kickoff and Scrimmage event. Over 25 area Elementary through Highschool FIRST teams regularly attend this event. We continue to support the FIRST programs by help host and providing volunteers to tournaments and competitions held up and down the Red River Valley. The STEM Alliance can be found out at the Red River Valley Fair hosting the STEM Exhibit during the Best Days of Summer! We also host a yearly STEM Expo. This event has been held at the Red River Valley Fair Grounds and at the Fargo AirSho. All these events attracted participants and attendees from across North Dakota and Minnesota.
Over the years, the STEM Alliance has develped and built protable system to support STEM Education and Activites.
Web Cast Unit
This unique system was developed as a result of the 2020 pandemic. As things started to return to normal, a need was identified. The need was to find a way to include people at events who many not be able to attend an event. The Web Cast Unit allows the STEM Alliance to broadcast events online and record them for later viewing. As the system evolved, it now can provide the means to host and produce a live event, stream the event online and record the event. This has helped streamline and reduce costs of hosting STEM activities, competitions, tournaments and other events. The system is also used to host large teleconferences across multiple locations and bring people together to share knowledge and network.
Event Support System
The Mobile Event Management System is a mix of both hardware (computers, printer, network equipment, tablets, video displays, and audio mixer) and software. This system is designed to be flexible so that it can support different activates and events at any level. This eliminates the need for event organizers to purchase, rent or acquire the necessary technology to put on events.
